SKANDIA ALLSPEL TUNES
The tunes on these CD’s are from the common repertoire of Pacific Northwest musicians who play traditional Scandinavian folk music at Skandia Folkdance Society events. The Swedish term, allspel, literally "everyone plays", refers to a performance open to all musicians present, as opposed to a formally organized musical group.
These recordings are intended as learning aids, rather than a regular commercial recordings. Following customary practice, each tune is played through twice. On the track, the basic melody is presented during the first time through, then the harmony line is added.
The listener may notice that the printed scores are not always identical to the way the tunes are performed on the CD. Such variations are typical of traditional folk music. Generally, however, the versions are harmonically compatible with one another.
